Kedah state begins with its eastern boundary demarcated by the Main Range. The steep hills ends rather quickly and the terrain changes into lowlands. Then, among the wide lowland plain at one spot beside the sea coast, a massive Gunong Jerai suddenly makes its presence felt. In the highland areas, sparsely populated, many river sources are left intact- retaining the "original" waterfalls. The States is literally littered with waterfalls, only a couple of large ones are picked up as well visited picnic spots. The others - minor falls confined to the locals as their playground.
Sometimes, the endless broad plains seen from where the expressway runs, gives an impression that there are no high hills, and therefore, no waterfall. In fact, there are many, scattered and some 50 kilometers inland, or just besides the highway. Yes, some dramatic and beautiful waterfalls occur on both eastern and western slopes of the solitary Gunong Jerai. Unfortunately, these waterfalls are seasonal, at other times, they are a trickle. Therefore, though not much of them are mentioned, a Park in Yan is well patronized. The 2 waterfalls listed at the top of the list, are evergreen. The Parks where they are in- the most beautiful, well maintained spots in the whole country.
