Waterfalls for the whole family

Ulu Serting Recreation Park

The Main Range that forms the backbone of Peninsula that almost divides the state of Negri Sembilan into 2 halves. It is also at its southern border that the Main Range ends. Just before that, inside Negri Sembilan State, there are 2 mountain passes that motorist can travel across the mountain.

One of them is through Jeram Toi, Kuala Kelawang to end at Simpang Pertang. At this town the eastern slopes of the Main Range ends.

About 3 kilometers south of the town, a nice paved road of 5 kilometers leads west back into the hills and forest.

Capitalizing on the availability of a large varieties of trees, a special corner of the forest is set aside as a recreation area.

This vicinity is better known as an education park focusing on trees.

For reasons unknown to us. this signage of an education park is now being removed.

Coming back to the subject of the park proper, the area chosen spread over a couple hillocks and transgress by 2 brooks. With the undergrowth cleared , the park can be properly seen to be sheltered by towering trees.

The thick canopy above gave the park a very shaded environment, in fact, some part very dark.

The geology allows the water to cut deep into the soft wet ground, cutting deep narrow ravines dotted with falls.

A suspension bridge joining the banks of the gorge on the right accentuates the terrain's profile.

At the entrance area, the slopes end and the gorge open up to small flat land. The area was wide enough for the construction of a square swimming pool and matched by its surrounding as a picnic ground.

The damp environment and limited sunlight favors the survival and propagations of many species of mushroom and fungi.

We had a field day taking photographs of the wonderful range of good specimens. An example would be this cluster of fungus.

Khoo's attention was drawn by this red colored specimen.

Another example of this place as a forest education park?

There are many variations of buttress roots from different species of trees.

This tree though not large but have exceptionally large proportion of its roots as buttresses.

The main tributary no bigger than a brook cascaded down from along hill slope, dropping only 8 meters.

Then, once inside the park, the cascading brook generated some nice looking falls. The poor lighting condition forbade beautiful pictures.; pure white falls in dark ravine don’t go well.

Look at the disastrous result! Khoo got his own image overcooked.

This ornamental waterfall was about 5 meters tall.
