Belemang Falls
Belemang Falls consist of 3 documented waterfall levels situated downriver of Gunung Ledang Water Catchment Dam. This also means that the waterfall may experience high variance in water volumes depending on the quantity of water released upstream. Situated behind oil palm estates where it is mostly double track gravel roads, low height sedans and normal cars may not be suited to visit this place during wet seasons where the roads may be slippery and rutted. Expect a longer hike distance of extra 2.2km in such cases. The most impressive fall of the series is Belemang Falls 1 (pictured below) with a multi-tier cascade spread into a small pool. Belemang Falls 2 is a tall but flat sloped waterfall seemingly used as a water catchment dam in the past with man-made structures.
Head to Tangkak town as the nearest landmark. From there take Route 23 towards Gunung Ledang. Before reaching Gunung Ledang, visitors will reach the junction that goes to Genting Tanah Merah Estate. (here) Follow this tarred road inside where on the 1st junction keep right going towards the Logi Rawatan Air Gng Ledang. Road conditions were poor during our visit with flat gravel roads that sedan cars may struggle with during wet seasons. As visitors get closer to the water catchment dam, there is a second forked junction. The left goes to the water treatment plant, take the right junction going towards an oil palm estate and look for empty spaces or clearing to park your vehicle. Ensure to park without obstructing passing vehicles. Proceed by foot from here on out.
There are no trails to the upper levels, only vague animal paths may exist. Visitors can scramble up the left side of the slope to reach the upper falls. Its position is documented below. Belemang Falls 3 (2.32795, 102.58170) is a cascade fall and is equally challenging to reach. The landscape is also getting a lot more wild and restrictive. Visitors are not advised to linger too long and keep in mind that during wet seasons there may be release of excess water from the water catchment dam upstream.
"Rubbish exist when there is an imbalance of those willing to take action."
