Rengai Fall is a punchbowl type waterfall where the stream cascades down from a vertical drop into a pool where it is surrounded by tall rock cliffs. Such waterfalls can be very dangerous due to the risk of flash flooding and limited escape access points. The waterfall has a semi-deep pool where it is filled with rounded pebble rocks. The water from the pool flows out thru a narrow vertical rock cliff forming a small cascade with a second pool downriver. This waterfall is NOT suitable for beginners and is also rather dangerous even for seasoned hikers. There is only a very specific rocky trail down to the base of the waterfall from the top of the slope, and the outflow of water is too strong to swim across via river trek from downriver.

Rengai Fall

Head to Benta town as the nearest landmark town. The region can be accessed from Raub, Kuala Lipis or Jerantut. Along the route between Benta & Damak, there is a small village called Kg Sempiat. Visitors can navigate to the village and the beginning of the access road to the trail head here. There is a small tarred road here, just wide enough for a single vehicle to pass. Inside are some village houses but no spaces available for parking. Hence visitors are advised to seek for parking spaces on the main road. Ensure to park responsibly without obstructing passing traffic.

Proceed by foot from here all the way in on the tarred road. There is a junction deeper in close to the end of the tarred road. On the left is a gravel road. (at 4.01114, 102.04120) This main gravel double track goes rather deep in along the top ridge of the river where it ends at a plantation deeper in. Do not follow this main gravel road all the way in. Roughly about 500m in, there is a left junction, follow this left path going down the slope right to the river. From here on out there are no clear trails, much of it is river side / river trekking within jungle forest. There are 2 landmark checkpoints on the way. 2 small weirs, one spotted quite early on during the river trek.(Image 1.) The location of the other weir is marked and provided down below.(Image 2.)

Visitors will be very near the waterfall when you reach the moderately large pool that is quite deep with its water source coming from a narrow gap between tall vertical rock cliffs.(Image 3.) There is a tricky section here. On the right side of the stream (important ! - viewer facing the stream against river flow) is a possible trail to scale over the rock cliff to the waterfall located just over it. Once at the top of the rock cliff, it is very difficult to spot any possible trail down. There is one safe trail down but there is no landmark to describe its position. This trail looks quite dangerous and steep from up the hill but there are rock stairs steps to go down to the base of the waterfall. To locate this trail, scout the edges of the cliff for its path while keeping the sight of the waterfall on the right side of you.

While enjoying the waterfall, ensure to be consciously aware of the possibility of loose rocks falling from the top of the cliff surrounding the waterfall. Weather is also another factor to be aware of as water levels and ferocity can increase rapidly at shocking levels if it rains and flash flooding occurs.

Exploration Notes : According to local aboriginal folk that we meet in the area, there is also a waterfall in the upper regions of the river but it is less interesting. Due to time constraints, the upper regions have not been attempted.
