Paumbang Falls
Paumbang Falls is a waterfall series located on the tributary of Sg. Batangsi river. It has 5 documented waterfalls of various shapes and height with the earlier 4 falls centered at the downriver section and a vertical one located much higher upriver that requires a significant effort to reach. The trail to reach the waterfall shares the same access with Batangsi Falls which is one of the longer trails (~9km) within Selangor state that will test the patience and fitness of visitors. This waterfall is NOT suitable for beginners due to its demanding trail. The upper falls should equally only be attempted with a jungle guide due to its non-existent and wild trails.
Head to Semenyih town as the nearest township landmark. From there proceed along Jln Sg Lalang and take the junction heading to an ostrich farm. (Image 1.) Sections of the road inside is not tarred but the gravel road can still be passed easily by normal sedan cars. There will be large areas of farmland and visitors will arrive at Kg Orang Asli Kechau Luar near a Buddhist temple. Visitors can park by the roadside near the Asli Farm Resort (here) Ensure to park without obstructing passing vehicles and proceed by foot from here on out.
From this point the trail will be riverside/river trekking. Follow a small trail on the right of the river up to the river cascade.(Image 4.) Cross the river and follow the trail on the left of the stream. Following the trail, visitors will arrive at a river confluence (3.04734, 101.92874) where on the left is the tributary river Sg. Paumbang where the waterfall is located. River trek about 80m following this left stream where the Paumbang Falls 1 will be in sight. Few visitors venture beyond this point where the trail is vague and non-existent. Visitors will have to scale up the slope on the right of Paumbang Fall 1 to continue upriver by river trekking. Stay on the right side of the stream without any river crossings where visitors will encounter 3 big cascade falls documented below. (Image 5, 6 & 7) The 5th waterfall (Image 8.) is a substantial distance away, requiring additional 1 hour of river trekking (roughly 1.5km) before reaching a section of steep vertical rock cliffs where the fall is hidden around the corner.
Exploration Notes : There are visible levels upriver but due to a lack of time it was not possible to continue exploring.
