Waterfalls  for the adventurous

Chiling Waterfall & the Selangor's Water world

Selangor offers numerous water based sites for people who prefer to spend their weekends enjoying the cool river water surrounded by jungle greenery.

The largest and very popular picnic area in the 5-kilometers stretch of the Pertak River that runs almost parallel to the road leading to Frasers Hill. Here you and your family can enjoy the cool, clear water and the tree on the riverbanks provide cool shades complete the ambience for your day’s outing.

Parking areas are provided.

These beautiful picnic spots will be available until the end of the century i.e. one more year, as you are reading this work is progressing to flood the place. See more in our site, log on to "outing" then "week12_2".

For the more adventurous, they would prefer less crowded areas and an opportunity to see nature at its pristine stage.

There are uncounted spots, confluent of the Pertak and the Chiling rivers is one such place.
Here, there are some fairly large rapids made by the fast flowing waters. Many rafters choose this place as their starting point. This "ferocious" looking rapids is just nice for the novices who is seeking for some thrills to spice up their lives.
There are others even more adventurous to leave the well trodden paths to seek that hidden waterfall.

Rather than contended with this waterfall. Until now, not many people are aware that the Chiling tributary areas offer more!

A waterfall not to be missed [ only for those familiar with outdoor living.]

There is a legendary waterfall that is rumored to be very beautiful. It is a well kept secret as the area needs protection. Then as it is not developed yet, reaching the waterfall and playing around it, is treacherous. No safety measures are installed for those not familiar with outdoor life! Having large crowd is not an assurance but false sense of security.

If you need to know its whereabouts.

After crossing the steel bridge {on the way to Frasers Hill} another 100 meters up, take the small turning on the right [a 4X4 vehicle is needed].

This tracks about 1-kilometer long leads to an open area. For a long time, this spot had served as a parking area and campsite. Now there is a signboard to inform hikers that camping is prohibited. If you decide to go no further and camp in this clean open area, please be warned. This stretch of river from the road in to the park area had taken many lives. The open area looks tame, sudden flash flood submerges most dry ground !

From here 4X4 vehicles can make a river crossing to follow a 2 kilometers trail upstream alongside the riverbank?

Adventurous hikers can follow the same trail on foot.

At the end of this motorized trail, there is another river crossing. Beware, the connecting link on the opposite river crossing is badly eroded. Continue on foot only!

Go along the riverbank on which are clear-cut tracks crises crossing the river several times.

Not all crossings are in the open air, a few have the river water weaving in between boulders.

Current is swift as the river is going through rapids. Water level here varies from 0.5 - 1 meter deep.

This is a trek of 1 kilometer and takes about 30 minutes with thigh deep water at the crossings. At the end of this exciting trek, a truly magnificent sight awaits you. There in front of you, is this monstrous fall, a great sight to behold.

The vertical fall of the water has over the years carved great cervices on the rocks.

Beware of the wet rocky walls by the fall.

The fall of water is so forceful that its sprays cover the whole vicinity, giving it a misty ethereal atmosphere. The waterfall is about 50 meters tall. What is frightening, this volume of water drops within a deep crevices carved out from the cliff surfaces. A giant water sprout with plenty of "smoke".

At the base rocks break up the falling wall of water before it enters into a 50 meters wide pool of varying depths. If you still have the energy and curious enough, climb up the steep bank to the top of the fall, to get a different view of the fall. Do bring your camera along to record your memorable trip to this remote fall!

The year, 1999 has been a tragic period with so many deaths reported from this magnificent outing destination. At the same time, it is glad to know that the new Selangor River dam will not affect this area and far away from it!
