Enchanting Land - the Berkelah Waterfalls

Not the right way to cross the river!
To reach the start of the trail, is an adventure in itself.First you have to find the right exit from the Maran-Kuantan road. About 31 km after Maran there is a signboard "Sungei Berkelah" Turn left here. A 4WD is needed, but also transport can be arranged from a nearby kampung. Contact us for more info.
The access to the falls might change after completion of the new KL-Kuantan highway.
The easier way

The first waterfall

The road ends at a spot where some shelters have been built. From here a cemented path leads to the falls.
Don't worry when at first it looks like the river has disappeared. You have first to cross a dry riverbed before reaching the first fall.
This double fall is quite impressive.

Waterfall after waterfall

After the first waterfall a few smaller falls follow. They have olympic-size pools with crystal-clear water.
Very inviting for a refreshing bath.
On the way you will see several place which are suitable for camping. But always be careful, that the place is safe against flash-flooding!

Beautiful Berkelah

Finally the top fall is reached, again with a huge pool (picture at the right).
Walking back, following the river bed, it is very clear how the river has eroded its way down amidst huge rocks and boulders
The whole region is very attractive and unspoiled.
Keep it that way, take only pictures and leave only footsteps

Berkelah Falls can be assessed by car but it would be a slow 5km drive through an unpaved road. The condition of the road is relatively good and flat with minor pot holes (Nov 2007) where you will reach a camp-site at the end of the drive. From the camp-site, it is an easy 15 minutes trek to the double falls. From the double falls, the trek gets steeper and it would take about 30 minutes to get to the top of the falls. Watch out for flash floods or sudden down pour which could make the return trek back a bit precarious. The water is clean, the surrounding is pristine and it is not crowded. The only sore point is that there is a lot of left-over rubbish from the campers.

splendid, perfect n awesome falls! its much more easier as there's no mosquito n those scary blood sucking leech! its in a list of waterfall that everyone must-go n must-try.. but to campers out there, pls keep d place n environment clean!

Yup...i agree...berkelah is da best ever! Mmg kalu pegi 1mgu pun x cukup...n bile dpt sampai kt waterfall tingkat ke7 tu mmg rsa hepi giler aa...nice view...tu la keindahan alam kuniaan Tuhan! Air yg jernih tu mmg sejuk mata memandang...cam air tebu beb! Hehehe...

dah pergi aritu , tempatnye cantik. kena trekking sampai the top gonna take about 2 hours. as we went higher, makin bersih tempatnye.. kat top tempat paling bersih sekali. ideal clothing will be sandals , shorts and bagpack. make sure tangan free untuk mengapai dan memanjat. enjoice

i\'m feel very happy... kat saner memang best giler...sekali pegi mesti nak pegi lagi lainkali...mase first saye ge camping pd bulan 6,2004 kali kedua bulan 8,2004 dan kali keempat bulan 4,tahun 2005...memang pengalaman seronok lah...tempat bersih,udara segar,tempat terpelihara...memang sesuai untuk kem...sekarang jalan masuk ke berkelah dah senag...jalan dah di bina...dulu kite terpaksa redah sungai...bila kite sampai dipintu gerbang,kite kena berjalan jauh sikit....kena panjat gunung...memang penat,tapi disebabkan keindahan yang ada disane,buat penat kite terubat,,jika anda ingin merasai keseronokan tersebut,jomlah pegi air terjun berkelah,...!! pasti anda pulang dgn hati yg gembira...i hope y\'all enjoy your camp... byez...

Hye there... I've been to Bekelah for the last couple of months. actually it's not Berkelah , it's just Bekelah. I guess so. But a friend of mine said Jerangkang is much more better. I dunno, just can''t wait till i get there..

The access road is a lot easier now. No need to cross the river, a new bridge has been built. A clear signboard on the old nr 2 highway to Kuantan shows clearly which exit to take. Normal car will do. Campsites are getting dirty..:-(
